The first international strategic seminar organised by the National Library of the Republic of Tatarstan with the support of Nekrasov Central Universal Research Library took place on the 27th of November. The seminar was joined by a representative of the Qatar National Library (QNL), Virgilio G. Medina Jr, who participated as a speaker.

Mr. Medina delivered a speech where he revealed the history of the creation and activity of QNL’s Children and Young Adults Department. He shared the latest concepts and strategies of library service development for younger readers that are currently employed in Qatar.

The seminar was joined by other high-profile experts, including Björn Stenvers, CEO of Amsterdam-based Eye Care Foundation, and Katri Vänttinen, Library Director at Helsinki City Library.

During group discussions with National Library of the Republic of Tatarstan representatives, speakers discussed international practices and innovative projects in library operations management.

The ideas hatched and decisions made during the seminar will form the basis for the Kazan Library development strategy. Today the Library of Tatarstan is considered one of the most developed and technologically advanced libraries in Russia. The project of its transformation and the concept of innovative bibliothecal educational spaces were developed with the support of Moscow’s Nekrasov Library.

Educational and scientific relations development is one of the priorities in the expansion of Qatari-Russian cooperation. The Qatari-Russian Center of Cooperation (QRCC) and partner organisations realize a wide range of projects in this field, including masterclasses and lectures by experts from Qatar’s leading educational institutions and scientific circles.  QRCC’s own Office of Knowledge and Innovation ideates and facilitates collaborations between Qatar and Russia in the fields of education, science, innovation, technology and social issues.
