The heads of the Qatari-Russian Center for Cooperation (QRCC) and the Dagestan State University (DSU) signed a Memorandum of Understanding. The document was signed by the Chief Executive Officer of QRCC Diana Charmadova and the Rector of DGU Murtazali Rabadanov.

The DSU and QRCC memorandum implies several spheres of interaction: both parties agreed to open a Qatar Research and Education Center in the DSU library, launch a research project on Arab cultural heritage, and offer each other comprehensive assistance with other research and educational initiatives.

“Our main goal is expanding and developing research of the historically rich Arab cultural heritage of Dagestan, with the aim of making new scientific discoveries and gaining worldwide recognition. Dagestan’s culture is a combination of the material and spiritual. By its nature, Dagestan is a living museum of historical heritage of the region. We are hoping that thanks to the participation of Qatari researchers, our joint projects will open access to the culture largely unknown elsewhere to the global community. We are pleased with the official signing of the memorandum, as it is the next step in the development of our initiatives. We look forward to active scientific and educational projects with professors, students of DSU, and representatives of Qatari universities. We expect that as soon as the epidemiological conditions allow it, DGU will be able to receive a research delegation from Hamad Bin Khalifa University”, – said Diana Charmadova, Chief Executive Officer of the Qatari-Russian Center for Cooperation.

Dagestan State University is one of the oldest and leading universities in the North Caucasus Federal District of Russia (NCFD). Its international activities are some of the most active in the region. For QRCC, Dagestan State University will become the first Russian university to adopt a Qatar Research and Education Center. The official launch of the center is scheduled for September 2021. Every year in December, the Qatar Science and Education Center of DSU will host Days of Arab Culture as part of the National Day of Qatar.

“The development of scientific and academic relations between the State of Qatar and the Russian Federation is of great importance. It is very symbolic that serious cooperation in the field of education and science between the states begins in the Year of Science and Technology announced in Russia. Dagestan State University is celebrating its 90th anniversary this year, and during its long history, it has gained vast experience of interaction with foreign countries, including some of the Arab states. The university has a strong school of oriental studies. Many leading specialists in the Arab countries and the Middle East are graduates of DSU. The signing of the memorandum and the opening of the Qatar Science and Education Center carries great mutual potential for leading universities in Qatar and DSU. For centuries, Dagestan has been attracting many prominent Arab scholars and theologians. The region has a rich ancient history, and over the last millennium it has created a culture that largely intersects with the culture of modern Qatar, in its foundations, dynamics, and competencies”, – said Murtazali Khulataevich Rabadanov, Rector of DGU.

The signing of the Memorandum took place at the Qatari-Russian Center for Cooperation.
