Qatar-Russia Matchmaking Event 2020 is a virtual platform organized by Qatar Development Bank under Tasdeer Services and Qatar-Russia Investment & Trade Advisory in September-December 2020 to connect Russian companies with Qatar’s export partners and develop future partnerships among companies from Russia and Qatar in various sectors.

International Business Travel Forum & MICE Geography Show 2020 is a large-scale business event for leading players in the MICE and business travel industry in 2020, which was held on November 17-18, 2020. Qatar-Russia Experience (QRE) was a strategic partner and participant of the forum. QRE services have earned the active interest of representatives of the travel industry.

Qatar National Sport Day

Qatar National Sports Day – the Qatar National Sports Days in Russia festival, held in Moscow from 9 to 13 February 2021, was dedicated to Qatar National Sports Day and brought together about 4,000 sports and active lifestyle fans. The festival was organized by the Embassy of the State of Qatar in Russia with the support of QR Sports and featured offline sports activities at 7 venues in Moscow, including the skating rink in Tagansky Park, and a series of online events.

IPAQ and Roscongress Online Event

IPAQ and Roscongress Online Event is a joint virtual event on ‘Qatar-Russia Economic Partnership’ held in December 2020. It was held by the Investment Promotion Agency Qatar (IPA Qatar) and the Roscongress Foundation. The event attempted to unfold Qatar’s sector-diverse business opportunities, including Qatar’s investment ecosystem.

Engagement with the Qatar Chamber of Commerce and Industry – In January 2021, in the run-up to SPIEF 2021, the Qatar Chamber hosted an introductory session for its members in cooperation with the Qatari-Russian Center for Cooperation. The event reviewed various means of boosting business cooperation between Qatar and Russia.

Cultural Creative Agency (CCA) builds new ways for the mutual representation of cultures between Russia and Qatar. CCA has unwavering commitments to enhance and encourage national-level cultural partnership, outreach cultures of both countries, organize arts and cultural activities, provide grant assistance, matchmaking, and sponsorship sourcing.  We also offer localization and branding opportunities tailored to the cultural context of Russia and Qatar, marketing and media support for businesses to access the markets of the two countries.

The Office of Knowledge and Innovation facilitates collaborations between Russia and Qatar in the fields of education, science, technology, innovation, and positive social change. This involves a mutual exchange of knowledge and technologies through educational and social programs, joint creation of innovations through research and scientific interaction, accelerators and incubators, promotion of knowledge in society through social partnership and public educational events.

Digital Dreams Open Call

Digital Dreams Open Call is a contest held in May-June 2020 to support Russian artists in a time of global crisis. The Open Call organized with the assistance of the Moscow Museum of Modern Art involved visual works created before or during a nationwide quarantine in 2020. Adult authors from all regions of Russia were invited to participate and present their projects on “Self-isolation”, “Digital reality”, etc.

Turbulence Open Call

Turbulence Open Call is an open independent competition of previously unimplemented projects of Russian artists that has been held since 2020. The topic of the projects is turbulence, the task is to reflect the new reality of the world faced with a pandemic crisis, as well as ways to adapt and survive in turbulence. Winners are encouraged to produce their projects, showcase them at the Cosmoscow International Fair, and receive cash prizes.

Open Innovations Forum 2020

Open Innovations Forum 2020 – The annual Moscow International Forum of Innovative Development traditionally attracts speakers and participants from all over the world. In October 2020, representatives of Qatari companies took part as online participants in the forum devoted to the topic “New Digital Normal. Are We Ready for a Changed World?”

Hamad Bin Khalifa University Visit 2019

Hamad Bin Khalifa University Visit 2019 – In October 2019, a delegation from Hamad Bin Khalifa University visited partners in Moscow, St. Petersburg, and Kazan and met with representatives of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation and leading Russian universities. A 12-person delegation from Hamad Bin Khalifa University discussed possible future joint efforts and got acquainted with the projects of Russian colleagues.  Organizing and supporting official educational trips and delegations serves the purpose of seeking common ground and starting a dialogue and collaboration.

Doha Arabic Language Prize

Doha Arabic Language Prize is an annual all-Russian contest in the Arabic language organized by the Cultural Creative Agency and the Qatar Arabic Language Center (QALC), Moscow. Russian citizens aged between 18 and 35 who are currently studying the Arabic language individually or at university may participate in the contest. All the finalists are awarded a one-year scholarship to study Arabic at Qatar University (Doha).

EastEast.world is a bilingual online magazine on history and contemporary culture. It is a platform for reflection on contemporary cultural geography. EastEast’s content is released via bi-monthly thematic issues, weekly features, and news stories published daily.

WISE - World Innovation Summit for Education 2019

WISE – World Innovation Summit for Education 2020 – The World Innovation Summit for Education is an international initiative aimed at transforming education through innovation. WISE was established by Qatar Foundation in 2009 under the patronage of its chairperson, Sheikha Mozah bint Nasser. In November 2019, Russian influential experts and education administrators gathered in Doha for engaging the summit.

Digital Investment Opportunities in Qatar webinar

Digital Investment Opportunities in Qatar webinar In September 2020, TASMU Digital Valley (TDV) together with Qatar Free Zones Authority (QFZA) and Qatar-Russia held a webinar “Digital Investment Opportunities in Qatar” to share key insights about key digital initiatives and opportunities in Qatar as well as the market potential for foreign investors, entrepreneurs, and companies. The speakers of TASMU Digital Valley and Qatar Free Zone Authority made a brief overview of the innovation ecosystem in Qatar, outlined the necessary steps to get started in Qatar, and provided support information and shared conditions that TDV offers to foreign companies.

Turbulence Discussion Program is a round table held in the context of the Cosmoscow International Fair as a logical follow-up to the Turbulence Open Call that turned it into a broader intellectual discussion. Scientists, philosophers, historians, and critics discussed the challenges linked to the concept of turbulence and how it is interpreted in their disciplines.

Tacit Knowledges

Tacit Knowledges is a project that brings to light non-Western philosophy (including Arab, Jewish, Indian, Chinese authors) and presents both secular and spiritual systems of thought (Sufi mysticism, Amazonian cosmology, new African religious movements, etc.). Materials shown in the form of a dialogue between experts and a journalist can be found both in podcasts and in writing.

Virtual Smart Cities Summit by Msheireb

Virtual Smart Cities Summit by Msheireb – In November 2020, Doha hosted the first-of-its-kind Smart Cities Summit, a virtual Summit for experts, professionals, and a wide audience, dedicated to the present and the future of smart cities. With the support of the Office of Knowledge and Innovation, speakers representing Russian companies Group-IB and NTechLab took part in the panel discussions on cybersecurity and smart cities’ readiness and preparedness in the stages of lockdown.

The Summit was organized by Msheireb Properties, a subsidiary of the Qatar Foundation. Msheireb Properties’ mission is to change the way people think about urban living and to improve their overall quality of life, through innovations that encourage social interaction, respect for culture, and greater care for the environment.

History of Russian Culture: the Essentials

History of Russian Culture: the Essentials is a series of seven video lectures in English with Arabic subtitles conducted by prominent Russian scholars in cinema, literature, visual art, theater, music, architecture, and design. Each of the arts is put in the wider cultural landscape with a particular focus on its links with Eastern culture. The lectures are available at easteast.world.

Pearl Diver

Pearl Diver is a fairytale based on traditional Qatari folklore and performed as a classic radio show with the participation of famous Russian actors. It premiered on Radio Kultura. The Pearl Diver is available on the easteast.world platform.

Research collaboration projects

Research collaboration projects – Cooperation of Russian universities and the Russian Academy of Sciences in the field of higher education with QU, Qatar Foundation, and other Qatari organizations is the main trust of social collaboration between Qatar and Russia and it is actively boosting. OKI promotes collaboration between Qatari and Russian scientists, researchers, and science foundations in multiple formats and on topics in the fields of gas, oil, Islamic finance, law, politics, Arabism and Oriental studies, sports management, genome biology, virology, sustainable development, culture, and many others.

Education guides – A plan for 2021 is to elaborate education, science, and innovation guides consolidating key information and facts about education, science, and innovation in Russia and Qatar. The guides would deliver basic information and an overall picture of the education and innovation ecosystems of both countries, as well as highlight the significant benefits of cooperation for Qatari and Russian partners.

Qatar Days of Hospitality

Qatar Days of Hospitality is a project introducing Qatar’s culinary traditions in Coffeemania restaurants, one of the largest Moscow restaurant chains. Coffeemania restaurants offered a special dessert along with Qatari Coffee. Coffee was served in the Dallah coffee pot, brought right from Doha on this occasion.

Qatar Film Days online

Qatar Film Days online is a cultural online platform launched by CCA, Doha Film Institute, and BEAT FILMS, the organizer of the largest documentary film festival in Russia, to present films of the Middle East and North Africa to the Russian audience.  Qatar Film Days showcased online the best feature films and documentaries made in the region in December 2020. The films were followed by discussions of directors, screenwriters, film critics, journalists.

Qatari universities visits to Moscow

Qatari universities visits to Moscow – In 2019, a delegation from Hamad bin Khalifa University visited a number of Russian universities and research centers that had led in the signing of memorandums and further joint programming, provided a framework for student and educator exchange programs, cooperative research, conferences, and other collaborations. A similar visit of Qatar University to Russia is planned for 2021.

Russian universities’ business mission to Doha

Russian universities’ business mission to Doha – The missions aim to unite relevant educational organizations in both countries, open up opportunities for collaborations in different directions, including joint research projects, exchanges, speeches and conferences, summer schools, etc. By 2021, it is planned to arrange a business mission of leading Russian universities to Doha.

Research Grants

Research Grants for independent Russian researchers from the fields of cultural studies, anthropology, philosophy, sociology, contemporary art, and other disciplines. The applicants are invited to investigate phenomena or cultural archetypes related to Qatari history and culture, such as nomadism, oral tradition, the architecture of majlis, pearl fishing, ornaments, and others (participants are welcome to propose their own ideas). The project ran from November 2020 to December 2021.

Qatar Between Land and Sea Through Arts and Ages

Qatar Between Land and Sea Through Arts and Ages is an exhibition, the first explicitly in St. Petersburg, from the fabulous Museum of Sheikh Faisal bin Qassim Al Thani that will be opened during the St. Petersburg Economic Forum in June 2021.  The exposition will present to the general public craftwork and artwork telling the story of customs and way of life in old Qatar. Visitors will be welcome to sit in the traditional Majlis and plunge into the world of falconry, see a unique collection of carpets, jewelry, a tear bottle, and traditional Qatari boats.

World Innovation Summit for Health (WISH 2020)

World Innovation Summit for Health (WISH 2020)For the first time in WISH history, 15 Russian companies supported by the Qatari-Russian Center for Cooperation applied for the Innovation Spark and Booster competitions in 2020. Three of them reached the finals and took part in a showcase at the WISH 2020 virtual summit. Innovation entries came from 43 countries. Russian women from HealthTech and MedTech fields took part in the WISH Session “Women in Innovation” held with the support of QRCC. Natalia Polushkina, Vice-President and Executive Director of Biomedical Technologies Cluster of Skolkovo Foundation, was among those international leaders evaluating companies and startups at WISH Innovation competitions in 2020.

Mawaheb Music Festival

Mawaheb Music Festival will be held in St. Petersburg in June 2021 to explore the musical culture of the Middle East and North Africa to the Russian public.

Qatar Films Days offline

Qatar Films Days offline – In 2021, the Qatar Films Days online project of December 2020 will be followed by a series of free festival offline film screenings specially tailored to the St. Petersburg Economic Forum. These screenings will also serve as a showcase for the Qatar film industry.

WISE - World Innovation Summit for Education 2019

WISE – World Innovation Summit for Education 2019 – The World Innovation Summit for Education is an international initiative aimed at transforming education through innovation. WISE was established by Qatar Foundation in 2009 under the patronage of its chairperson, Sheikha Mozah bint Nasser. In November 2019, Russian influential experts and education administrators gathered in Doha for engaging the summit.

WISE – World Innovation Summit for Education 2020 – WISE was held virtually in 2020. The program of the 3-day online forum included three-hour morning and evening sessions. Russian speakers participated in the online event. Participants and viewers of the forum from all over the world, including Russia, took an active part in online discussions.

Digital Investment Opportunities in Qatar webinar In September 2020, TASMU Digital Valley (TDV) together with Qatar Free Zones Authority (QFZA) and Qatar-Russia held a webinar “Digital Investment Opportunities in Qatar” to share key insights about key digital initiatives and opportunities in Qatar as well as the market potential for foreign investors, entrepreneurs, and companies. The speakers of TASMU Digital Valley and Qatar Free Zone Authority made a brief overview of the innovation ecosystem in Qatar, outlined the necessary steps to get started in Qatar, and provided support information and shared conditions that TDV offers to foreign companies.

WISE – World Innovation Summit for Education 2021 The World Innovation Summit for Education WISE 2021 is scheduled for December 8-9, 2021. WISE leaders will take part in SPIEF-2021 in St. Petersburg in the summer of 2021.

Virtual Smart Cities Summit by Msheireb

Virtual Smart Cities Summit by Msheireb – In November 2020, Doha hosted the first-of-its-kind Smart Cities Summit, a virtual Summit for experts, professionals, and a wide audience, dedicated to the present and the future of smart cities. With the support of the Office of Knowledge and Innovation, speakers representing Russian companies Group-IB and NTechLab took part in the panel discussions on cybersecurity and smart cities’ readiness and preparedness in the stages of lockdown.

The Summit was organized by Msheireb Properties, a subsidiary of the Qatar Foundation. Msheireb Properties’ mission is to change the way people think about urban living and to improve their overall quality of life, through innovations that encourage social interaction, respect for culture, and greater care for the environment.

Research collaboration projects

Research collaboration projects – Cooperation of Russian universities and the Russian Academy of Sciences in the field of higher education with QU, Qatar Foundation, and other Qatari organizations is the main trust of social collaboration between Qatar and Russia and it is actively boosting. OKI promotes collaboration between Qatari and Russian scientists, researchers, and science foundations in multiple formats and on topics in the fields of gas, oil, Islamic finance, law, politics, Arabism and Oriental studies, sports management, genome biology, virology, sustainable development, culture, and many others.

Education guides

Education guides – A plan for 2021 is to elaborate education, science, and innovation guides consolidating key information and facts about education, science, and innovation in Russia and Qatar. The guides would deliver basic information and an overall picture of the education and innovation ecosystems of both countries, as well as highlight the significant benefits of cooperation for Qatari and Russian partners.

Qatari universities visits to Moscow

Qatari universities visits to Moscow – In 2019, a delegation from Hamad bin Khalifa University visited a number of Russian universities and research centers that had led in the signing of memorandums and further joint programming, provided a framework for student and educator exchange programs, cooperative research, conferences, and other collaborations. A similar visit of Qatar University to Russia is planned for 2021.

Russian universities’ business mission to Doha – The missions aim to unite relevant educational organizations in both countries, open up opportunities for collaborations in different directions, including joint research projects, exchanges, speeches and conferences, summer schools, etc. By 2021, it is planned to arrange a business mission of leading Russian universities to Doha.

World Innovation Summit for Health (WISH 2020)

World Innovation Summit for Health (WISH 2020)For the first time in WISH history, 15 Russian companies supported by the Qatari-Russian Center for Cooperation applied for the Innovation Spark and Booster competitions in 2020. Three of them reached the finals and took part in a showcase at the WISH 2020 virtual summit. Innovation entries came from 43 countries. Russian women from HealthTech and MedTech fields took part in the WISH Session “Women in Innovation” held with the support of QRCC. Natalia Polushkina, Vice-President and Executive Director of Biomedical Technologies Cluster of Skolkovo Foundation, was among those international leaders evaluating companies and startups at WISH Innovation competitions in 2020.

В рамках Саммита WISH при поддержке катарско-российского центра сотрудничества была организована сессия “Women in Innovation”, представленная российскими женщинами-экспертами в области HealthTech и MedTech.

В число международных лидеров, оценивающих компании и стартапы в рамках инновационных конкурсов WISH в 2020 году вошла Наталья Полушкина – Вице-президент, исполнительный директор Кластера биологических и медицинских технологий, Фонда «Сколково».
